In Colorado there are 58 named 14ers -- peaks rising over 14,000 feet above sea level -- 53 of these are considered "official," that is, with at least 300 feet of vertical prominence separating one peak from another.  They are divided among 7 sub ranges in the Rocky Mountains. California has 12 official 14ers and Washington state has 2.   In Alaska there are 21 peaks over 14,000 feet, 12 of these rising over 15,000 feet.
